New Charter Building Company Limited was established on 27th March 2000 to support the biggest stock transfer in the country at the time. Nearly 16,400 homes were transferred to us from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.
Through continuous development, and a desire to meet our customers' needs, we’ve developed an excellent service for customers. We have a team of highly skilled and qualified professionals who offer a complete service to our customers including, plumbers, electricians, gas fitters, plasterers, painters and joiners who are highly trained and experienced.
Since transfer we have been undertaking a massive reinvestment programme as well as continuing with a responsive repairs and maintenance service. Part of the work includes fitting new bathrooms, kitchens and new heating to over 15,000 homes across Tameside.
We have also expanded the commercial side of our business and are regularly winning external work which is a vitally important part of our business. We take pride in what we do and we know we make a difference to the homes of our customers. This was recognised in May 2009, when we were presented with the RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health & Safety. This is a tremendous achievement and recognises the hard work done by our Health and Safety team and by all our employees.
We have also been shortlisted for The Personnel Today Awards 2009 category for ‘Diversity in the Workplace’. One demonstration of this is our partnership with the Wai Yin Chinese Women’s Society. This successful partnership provided paid work placements to 14 women and has been featured in The Embracing Diversity Good Practice Guide and Inside Housing.
The changes that have taken place over the last couple of years have helped to shift attitudes, break down barriers and have brought our business into the 21st Century.
